Can Laminate flooring with waterproof treatment be laid in the bathroom?
Can Laminate flooring with waterproof treatment be laid in the bathroom?
Absolutely not! The reasons are as follows:
Fatal structural defect
The HDF high-density fiberboard base material of Laminate will expand rapidly when exposed to water (water absorption expansion rate ≥8%). Even if there is a waterproof coating on the surface, the joints are still weak points for water penetration.
After water vapor invades from the edges, the floor will bulge and deform, with the edges turning white and warping, and this situation is irreversible.
The essential difference of waterproofing
Vinyl/SPC is a 100% fully waterproof structure: The base material is made of PVC or stone plastic (limestone powder +PVC), with no water-absorbing components at all.
Although WPC (wood-plastic composite) flooring contains wood fibers, it achieves overall waterproofing through micro-foamed PVC wrapping technology, and its performance is superior to Laminate.
Professional advice:
Waterproof flooring must be chosen for the bathroom. Make sure to look for the following labels:
Vinyl/SPC: Marked "100% Waterproof" (totally Waterproof)
WPC: Marked "Waterproof Core" (Waterproof Core layer)
Beware of misleading publicity: Laminate's "water resistant" is only splash-proof, not waterproof!
